Trials & Navigation

Complete freedom is not what a trail offers. Quite the opposite; a trail is a tactful reduction of options.

I was really looking forward to my Bicycle trip, my year’s event – to the joy of driving off the beaten track too. It was not a fully organized trip – I only set a date and marked some routes on my map in Komoot, the bike map that I am familiar with so that I would not go out completely unprepared on which direction i had to go.

The pictures here are from the Voralberg cycle route, where I spent two wonderful days along the Canal de Inn and in the foothills of the Vorarl mountains. Direction Feldkirch journeys of 40 to 70 miles (65 – 110 km) per day

The cycle route networks in western Europe are perfectly painted out. As long as you follow the route since you will go the correct direction. But as usual , sometimes i missed some Since here and there. Which lead to perilous but especially funny moments with myself and some citizens

Driving for a couple of ours in the opposite direction for example till i ask a citizen and she told me that i had to turn in de direction i just came from. My face , her reaction and my reaction by her reaction were priceless.

Can you imagine:

Madam may I ask you something? of course. Is this the right direction to Sargans ? uhmmm No you have to go that way …. pointing in the direction where i came from, cycled a little less than 20 km beside the Rhijn Canal

So Don’t trust to much your GPS, try also vintage maps, my reccomentation.

But still, i did not worry ore complained. The view and Environment i drove in was amazing.

Even not when the temperatures were above 34 degree’s. With almost no shade to hide for the burning sun. The roads between cornfields and mountains seems endless

Not even when I climbed a mountain of 22% in full sun to enjoy the beautiful view. Not knowing that behind me on the wall painting was the place written in pained where I would go a week later with some friends, Pula in Croatia. I did’t know at the moment i was take the picture
