After having been in the Saddle for 8 hours today and by now cycling almost 170 Km in two days, I arrived in Innsbruck. The trip went largely downhill. Which is quite a welcome thing as from now on I really have to go up into the high mountains to get to Lichtenstein. but before the time comes, I am still two days in my ‘home-land ‘ Austria.
Someone ask me recently You must be super-fit to set off on a bicycle tour? Nothing could be further from the truth. If you’ve got two functioning lungs, you can go on a bicycle tour. The beauty of bicycle touring is that you can start out slow and build up gradually. There’s no need to be able to crank out 100 kilometers on your first day. In fact, many bicycle tourists are comfortable puttering along at around 60 kilometers per day.
That also was the recommendation from a good friend, but i look at it from day to day.
So that’s why i get faster yesterday and will be slower the common days
Innsbruck is not entirely new to me. I soon found a sleeping spot. The top of the bill was yet to come as Birgit and Thomas surprised me with a delicious home made Chili con-carne , some beer from Salzburg and a great view from there wonderful rooftop terrace.
The view is really overwhelming. We climbed even on the Roof , i increasingly understand why Innsbruck is called a very special city. A city surrounded by mountains. This kind of city is very unique. From the roof you can see the different architecture , the City-life and bohemian styles and then ,in a view minutes you are in the middle of nature. Even the border of Italia is so close that you can smell the aroma of the pizza’s already. For sure i will come back , even also because my host for the night Karolina went sick so we couldn’t meet. And to see Birgit & Thomas again so that i can give something in return for there lovely hospitality.
After a good night sleep, I leave Innsbruck behind to head towards Voralberg. I will not be able to make the KMs of the past days. So we’re going to see how far we get. I am really looking forward to the high mountains. With a nice 26 degrees and a breeze it will be a great adventure again.
